About the Scholarship

This scholarship is established in the names of and in memoriam of three (3) strong Christian men that impacted family, community, and the local church: Edd T. Benton, Robert Lewis, and Kenneth Smith

Edd T. Benton AKA Tommy was dedicated to God, a humble man that valued life and knowledge. He loved books.  Books on several subjects but especially about natural herbs and African American history. Tommy had to drop out of school as a teenager but later earned his G.E.D. at age 40. Tommy valued learning and achieving, and legacy is rooted in his philosophy to: “Expand, grow, and learn past what you know to advance yourself and generations to come.

Robert Lewis was a man dedicated to God and family. He loved sports and was dedicated to his District of Columbia (DC) teams. Robert attended the University of the District of Columbia, participating in various classes throughout the years. Robert earned his certifications in both floor care and customer service.

Kenneth Smith was a man of God, passionate about serving others. Kenneth Smith valued education and had expertise in finance.  Kenneth believed that education provided for a better quality of life. He was a man of integrity who met no strangers. Kenneth’s motto was “to live life without stress because he recognized God was in control”. Kenneth was well rounded and enjoyed all genre of music, loved all sports, and was a history buff, but more importantly his priority was his family.
